Ben Nobuto: SERENITY 2.0 | Manchester Collective

Ben Nobuto: SERENITY 2.0 | Manchester Collective

Ben Nobuto’s work is utterly contemporary. His music assimilates and responds to the dizzying array of digital media that Generation Z have lived with since birth. His first language is the internet. On, off, and on again. Attention and fragmentation. Manchester Collective was proud to commission and premiere this new work by Ben as part of our Heavy Metal tour in 2021. "SERENITY 2.0 takes the form of a guided meditation that’s continually derailed. Listeners are invited to enter into a relaxed, meditative state, despite knowing fully well that any kind of serenity here is impossible. As if programmed by a machine, the music randomly starts and stops, switches material, slows down and speeds up, cycling through fragments of 80s Japanese pop, YouTube vlogs, folk jigs, TED Talks, and Baroque music in endless permutations. The ‘2.0’ in the title refers to something like a software update, as if the music you’re listening to wants to upgrade and, in turn, upgrade you." – Ben Nobuto Filmed at The White Hotel in Salford Percussion: Beibei Wang Violin: Rakhi Singh Violin: Julian Azkoul Viola: Ruth Gibson Cello: Stephanie Tress Live Electronics: Joe Reiser Film: Dan Parrott --- Subscribe: http://bit.ly/MC-YouTube-Subscribe Website: https://manchestercollective.co.uk Bandcamp: https://manchestercollective.bandcamp.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/manchestercollective Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/manchestercollective Twitter: https://twitter.com/manc_collective

Hi! I’m a Romanian-born filmmaker based in Manchester. My main areas of interest are live music and helping people from all walks of life share their unique stories with the world. As a result, my portfolio spans music videos, documentaries, community projects, award shows, and more.

While my primary focus is cinematography, I’m often a one-woman band (no music pun intended), taking on self-shoot projects where I produce, direct, film, and edit.

My passion for filming music comes from my own experience as a singer—you might catch me on stage either behind a microphone or filming your favorite band.

When I’m not on set or prepping for a shoot, I teach Media and Screen Production at the University of Salford, inspiring others to bring their creative visions to life.

Testimonials

Alan E. Williams

Professor of Collaborative Composition
(University of Salford)

Georgiana made the film for my most recent 'Listening Composer' project, and she and her company were absolutely fantastic to work with. They made the most beautiful film, and did so in a way that didn't intrude on the project, and took the trouble to really understand what we trying to achieve. The results couldn't have been better, and everyone in the participant group commented on what a pleasure it had been to have Georgiana with us in the project.

Georgiana is an absolute pleasure to collaborate with. We frequently rely on her for our videography projects at HOME, and her creative vision and meticulous attention to detail are invaluable. No matter the brief, Georgiana consistently delivers video work of the highest quality. I’d highly recommend Georgiana for any videography or content work
